Getting the courage to phone
I'm 20 years of age and a gay male. I enjoy drama, singing and dancing. In my spare time I like to socialise with friends. When I first contacted Pride Youth it took me a lot of courage to do so. I went into a room on my own and phoned and said I was a little confused about my sexuality. They said come along and see if you want to join. After being at Pride Youth for a while I met my first boyfriend and spent a short time with him. When we split I said to myself "this is me: gay".
I then told my family and friends and they all accepted it straight away. After a while I met my long term boyfriend and we were together for two years, but it ended Christmas 2003. I stayed single for a while and lived life a little. I then logged on to one of the meeting websites for gay people. I met a few people on there and this is where I found my current boyfriend. My advice to you is, if you use the internet be careful what you say and don't give out personal information.
Since being at Pride Youth I can say that the staff give you
a lot of support and guidance and it's a place you can be yourself and no-one
can judge you. So if you want support, please don't be shy or embarrassed,
pick up that phone and give us a call.
