Mum finds out
My rule in school was tell no-one as the highly sporty, unintellectual world meant you were either the bottom of your set, sport-mad-jock or you were bullied. I didn't want to give them any more ammunition to fire at me as they already had enough for their guns. However, I reached year 11 and when my friends asked why I never had girlfriends I decided to tell them.
My friends were all really good and didn't tell anyone whatsoever, but just before my school prom my mum came in crying her eyes out and started to shout "you're queer and didn't tell me". We talked and she told the rest of my family who are also very good with the whole situation. I have now been out for nearly two years and have a great relationship with my family, especially my Auntie, but then she is a born lesbian.
At the end of the day it is hard, very hard, but life does
improve. We are all great friends and have lots of fun, so if at all possible,
please come and join us. If not, good luck. Persevere now and all will be
well in the end.
