Parents with Pride

Please note: we have had to cancel the meeting on the 17th May, but will be back with you again on the 14th June and will have more dates coming up for the summer. See you there. Julie

This section we wanted to dedicate to parents, both straight and LGBT. Having recently received quite a few enquiries about these matters it seemed like a good idea to expand our services and to develop a holistic approach to the work that we already do. We know from the vast amounts of research available that sexuality and gender issues can be devastating on family relations and if we are to achieve our vision of;having young LGBT people feeling safe and confident, having equal access to education without fear of homophobic bullying, being valued rather than tolerated within the wider community and of fulfilling their potential, at what ever level that may be, then it makes perfect sense to work with parents as well. We strongly believe that knowledge is a powerful tool and by raising awareness of the issues faced by young LGBT people and children of LGBT parents and by acknowledging the difficulties of coming to terms with a family members sexuality or gender, we hope to tackle inequality and injustice wherever it may arise.

There is excellent information provided on the websites of such organisations as Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays or Pink Parents.
