Lack of LGB Sex Education In Mainstream Education

LGB sexual health and relationship education remains in many schools and colleges, a subject of embarrassment. Sex education continues to be dominated by models of heterosexuality, with a lack of effective sex education for young LGB people and an absence of recognition of same sex relationships. Reports from young Swindon LGB people have stated that LGB issues have been dealt with by teachers telling pupils to seek them out after the class if they required any input on gay health matters. It is not surprising then to hear that many young people fail to take up this opportunity for fear of being outed and suffering rejection and humiliation from their peers.

Lack of effective sex education can lead young people to take risks with their sexual health by practising unsafe sex and with their emotional health by not having adult role models that can positively influence perceptions on same sex relationships.

There are a range of links to further information and help with all the issues above at the top of this page. We also have a links page for these and other organisations.
